is your system 134a or r12? look under the hood around the a/c compressor or on the firewall around the blower housing, it should tell you and how much freon it takes. but you must evacute the system. pull a vaccum and add oil then freon. really this should be done by a qualified tech. if done improperly , it couuld damage the system and cost you big time in the log run.

If all of the hardware is assembled and complete in car then you can use a retro kit from kmart or walmart. Make sure your system is empty before starting. They have good directions so don't be worried. Change fittings, assemble fill hose, connect to fittings, turn ac on max, and it should fill on its own. Make sure you get the kit that has the oil for the compressor included. Your toyota should only take about 3 cans and hopefully there are o rings included. Good luck.
