serious xbox 360 vs ps3 question?

first off, i dont want people saying xbox 360/ps3 rules or stuff like that.

on sunday, the xbox 360 20gb will go down to $300, and so im thinking of getting one.

im still torn bet. a 360 and a ps3.

hardware-wise, 360 is still a better console. yes, the ps3 has a more powerful engine, but that doesn't mean it has the better graphics, etc. remember the original xbox vs ps2? xbox is superior before, but ps2 games still look awesome. and i know that 360 has a smarter anti-aliasing back buffer techniques, although ps3 has the cell broadband engine.

also, i'm considering the game library. 360 has a solid game library. but as you all know, xbox is entering its 3rd year. that means sooner or later, there will be a new xbox. and ps3, although a total bum on its 1st year, is a pretty new console. that means the ps3 will not likely be replaced in the next 2-3 years. ps3 also has strong titles, but for me, games are still few.

Update:

for the wi-fi, xbox live costs you nearly $50 a year. ps3 is free of charge.

and most importantly, the cost. although 360 is the cheaper console, you still need to buy the wi-fi adapter, hdmi cable, usb cables, which in total, will be like the ps3's cost, since the ps3 comes with built-in wi-fi and accessories i.e. hdmi cables, etc.

also, will it be a plus for the ps3 cause i have a psp. or not really?

i want people to be fair in their answers, and give me a concrete argument about it. thanks.

Play it safe and go with the 360. I had all 3 systems, now I only have 2. I have the 360 and the Wii.

I bought the PS3 for MGS4, but once I beat it the 2nd time, I realized that there was no point for me to keep the system unless I really wanted to play MGS4 for the rest of this generation.

Now as of todays E3 press conference the latest Final Fantasy game will be released exactly the same day as the PS3 version meaning Sony has lost the exclusive rights to the game. Now, I personally could care less for the Final Fantasy series, but I know many people who live by it, and now that it's on 360 I'm sure that's the console they will be buying.

There are only a few games I can even think of that will only be going to PS3 that I might want to play, but most of those already have a 360 equal.

Grand Turismo 3 | Forza Motorsport 2/ and 3 soon

Socom | Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2

Ratchet and Clank | Banjo Kazooie

    MGS4 | Splinter Cell Conviction

I'm sure there are more, but as of now they are flying under the radar far enough they haven't gotten much attention

And as for the whole graphics thing. According to Hideo Kojima they basically used everything the PS3 has in terms of processing power and space to make the game, and in my opinion it didn't look all that much better than say Assasins Creeds either the PS3 or 360 version.

I don't really think we'll be seeing anything more "mindblowing" than MGS4/Assasins Creed and Gears of War 2 this generation, unless both consoles are holding back or something.

I realized that all the really good 3rd party games like Madden, Guitar Hero/Rockband, anything Tom Clancy, etc are always going to be multi-platform. And, they almost always look the same on both consoles, if not slightly better on the 360.

So, I returned the PS3 and bought a Nintendo Wii, and I couldn't be more happy.

Source(s): I had all three consoles, but I didn't like one so now I only have two of them.

Both are equally awesome. Graphics are fairly similar, and there is no clear-cut winner from the two. Xbox has a very strong library, but Playstation is newer, and keeps getting updated. It could well be still going strong when the next xbox comes out. But that's just a guess.

Playstation is more expensive, but if you add features to the Xbox (like a wireless adaptor) their prices can be similar. I heard that by adding everything to an xbox to get all the features of the ps3 you end up paying more. But you would still only have to add what you want, not get bombarded with unnecessary things.

I think that soon enough the game libraries will be equal. You know how Playstation had absolutely no games for a long time, well I've seen that change. Over the last 6 months my games store has started stocking over three times its original amount of ps3 games. Besides, it's not like you're gonna buy them all. (unless you're rich and/or have no life)

Having a PSP is good with the ps3, but it really acts as a controller, which you could get the same effects as with a controller. So it's not that big a difference.

Xbox Live is $50 a year, which turns out to be hardly anything per month, which doesn't really impact you. But since psn is free, and you don't have to pay to play online with a pc, it's only a money-making venture from Microsoft. They get millions and millions, and you could get similar service from psn for free. True, you get more on xbl, but ps3 has an in-built browser, and anything you can't get, surely you could find it on a pc?

I have a ps3 and a pc, but I've also played on the xbox and have many friends with the console. I don't specifically dislike one over the other, I think they both have good points. Either way, they are both satisfying purchases. In my opinion, though, I would say to go for the ps3, mainly because it keeps getting updated.

I don't know or care about any of the "more pwerful processor engine core blah bla" stuff. But grahpichs, let's put it this way. Developers have used 30% of the PS3's graphical power on Ucharted. It looks the same if not better than gears of war, which used 98% of the 360's power. Look at Grab Turismo 5 and tell me which has better graphics. Think of how things will look then all the avaailable power is used.

Games on PS3 are stored on blu-ray discs giving developers 5X the space to create things. That means larger game worlds, better AI and is the reason MGS4 can't go to 360. It would have to be on 5-6 discs.

There are 150+ PS3 exclusives confirmed. Google PS3 exclusives for the list. PS3 gets Crysis later this year or next year, and will very likely get Far Cry 2, both are games even top level PCs have trouble handling. So how could the 360?

You are right about the life span. Microsoft has already approached developers about making games for their new console.

  • Save for a PS3 its more expensive,

but you will save in the long-run cause there is no

"red ring of death" for a PS3
