so im doing a term paper on financial institutions i.e. banks, mutual funds, hedge funds, mortgage, etc. that had gone bust during the recent credit bubble. or companies that got bailouts. any suggestions? im trying to use Carlyle Capital but i dont have enough sources? is there a site where they give you the ocmpany history, etc.? yes, the more popular ones are Lehman, Fanny Mae Freddie Mac, etc. but im sure someone will also do them. any suggestions?? thanks! :D

how do i get the characteristic equation of a symmetric matrix?

e.g.( xI-A )is

the answer is x^3 - 9x

to get it, it's det(xI-A). but i dont seem to get the determinant of symmetric matrix. i tried getting the determinant the long way but it doesn't math the answer.

can anyone show me how to do it step-by-step? thanks.

i have a 13.3" toshiba protege m800 with 3GB of RAM and intel GMA 4500MHD 128mb when i view my specs it says 'shared system memory 900 mb' and i'm running on vista and i know it just uses it whenever it is necessary but i want to disable the damn feature but i can't since i can't locate it in the bios. ugh. can someone enlighten me on how to decrease shared video memory if the option is not available in the BIOS?????

i need a new laptop that's LIGHT but at the same time not underpowered. i have been searching ultraportables but their graphical capabilities are just too low. can anyone recommend a light notebook which can play 720p, has an hdmi port, has a decent processor, only 2 gb of ram, only 100 gb or less HDD, and less than 14 inches. and has a pretty decent battery life

it's really hard to look for a laptop that has graphical capabilities and light at the same time. i've been thinknig of getting the new ASUS N81Vp, it has 4 gb of ram (which i probably can't use that much), a 14.1" screen which is awesome, but it has too big of a harddrive (320gb). the bad thing is i live in edmonton, alberta, canada and i don't know where to buy a notebook where i can customize it (dell's customization sucks, you can't subtract features, you can only add).

so if anyone can help me find a not-so-heavy, not-so-underpowered laptop, please help.

p.s. i'm won't buy a mac (because macbooks are just stupid, overpriced, and the 'it has no viruses' reason are just for people who don't know how to use an antivirus/antispyware properly), no dell or hp (mediocre products. i have an hp laptop that's loud as hell, and the battery only lasts for 2 minutes, customer service is the worst). also, i want to try some of the retailers out there (not the usual bestbuy/futureshop stores), but i have never bought any electronics from them and i might not get a proper warranty or something (sudden liquidation ro some other recession-wise reasons, and their websites look real hideous)

i'm thinking of getting either an Asus, a Lenovo, or a Toshiba laptop (or some of 'em good ones). i don't need an Alienware, XPS or something.

my price range is between $500-$1500 (hopefully won't reach $1500, cause we're in a recession. things are supposed to be cheap, right?)

these are data from world bank website. i know that real gdp = nom gdp/gdp deflator x 100 but it doesnt make any sense since the result would be like a 4-digit number (like $5,000 billion). can someone enlighten me here???

i know that the blu ray sports a whopping 54gb of storage, while the 360's HD dvd only has a little over 8gb of storage. the question is, why does multiplatform games only have one disc? does that mean those games don't use the full 54gb of the blu ray just to cope with the 360's hd dvd? i would be very disappointed since there's alot of storage on the blu ray. and using only 1/5 of the capacity is ridiculous.

after an automatic detection on display settings my ps3 says the maximum resolution my tv can get is 1080p. so, who tells the truth? ps3 or bestbuy website?

first off, i dont want people saying xbox 360/ps3 rules or stuff like that.

on sunday, the xbox 360 20gb will go down to $300, and so im thinking of getting one.

im still torn bet. a 360 and a ps3.

hardware-wise, 360 is still a better console. yes, the ps3 has a more powerful engine, but that doesn't mean it has the better graphics, etc. remember the original xbox vs ps2? xbox is superior before, but ps2 games still look awesome. and i know that 360 has a smarter anti-aliasing back buffer techniques, although ps3 has the cell broadband engine.

also, i'm considering the game library. 360 has a solid game library. but as you all know, xbox is entering its 3rd year. that means sooner or later, there will be a new xbox. and ps3, although a total bum on its 1st year, is a pretty new console. that means the ps3 will not likely be replaced in the next 2-3 years. ps3 also has strong titles, but for me, games are still few.

in average, how much do they earn? i'm from canada but i think US and UK offer more money to economists.

i got an F in my first essay. oh yeah, a big F in my paper here at a univ here in Canada. we still have 2 essays left for this term, but ENglish is to be taken for the whole year, so im assuming that maybe we still have another 3 essays next winter term. anyways, should i withdraw from the class? but that means i have to take english again next year. because the subj is seasonal and a whole year long. any help?
