It's a little more complicated then that. Not all computer that come with Vista installed are capable of going to XP, do to the computers drivers not being able to support XP.

So first you must go to the dell website, go into driver download, put in the model number of your computer and see if your computer has all the driver downloads that can support XP.

If they do, then that means you can install XP on the computer. But I don't know if dell can send you the cd for it, they may or may not. You would be able to buy it from the store, no problem, but if you install XP onto the computer, it may end up voiding the warranty on your computer.

Also you will have to format the computer, before install XP. Because you will not be able to put XP over VIsta, as Vista is newer. So you will have to backup any important documents and anything else.

    Sorry, no they won't.

The good news is that Dell XP installation CD's go for a song on Ebay, they can only install on Dell PC's so are very cheap. I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, no. Microsoft products do not downgrade. The only way to get back to Windows xp would be to format your harddrive and start over.

Yes they can but it won't be free or, cheap. Look at the first link. You could try Ubuntu. Its free! You can download and burn your own copy(fastest way). You could also follow the second link, sign up for the shipit program they have. They would then send you a CD for free right to your door.

No. You have to buy xp and install it yourself. For instructions, check out ehow.com and search for "format hard drive". It's really easy but might take a couple of hours. But it's worth it to get xp!

Why would you want to downgrade?

    There's nothing wrong with Vista.

If you have incompatible hardware or software, you'll have to buy XP - Dell won't provide it.

Very doubtful. But Tiger has a good deal on XP here:
