Is there or will there ever be a way?
To make the 40 gig PS3 backwards compatible. I found out today that my parents did not buy the 60 gig ps3 I wanted and instead bought the 40 and so now my 30+ ps2 games are useless. Any way to fix this besides buying a new PS3?

Nope. There's no way to enforce backwards compatability on a console. Sorry!
