Skiing/snowboarding with glasses?

Is it practical? If the weather is -4C to 1C can you get away with not using goggles?

You should always wear some kind of eye protection when riding or skiing. Sun reflecting off the snow is incredibly blinding and there is a much greater chance of UV =damage to your eyes. Windy cold, dry air will dry out your eyes very quickly and it will be very uncomfortable, maybe painful. You have a few options.

Your best and least costly one is over the glasses (otg) goggles. These goggles have notches in the frames to let you wear glasses and goggles.

Many goggle manufacturers offer prescription goggles of inserts.

Prescription sunglasses are available, but there is a danger of losing or breaking them in a fall, and snow can get in your eyes while wearing them

    Snowboarding With Glasses

Sunglasses are normally fitted with cat 3 lenses, which are fairly dark. This is because people normally only wear them when the weather is fine and sunny.

If the weather is overcast the cat 3 lenses will make your vision worse. In these cases you will need a cat 1 or possibly 2 lens which will help your vision. The problem is that cat 1 should not be used in bright conditions, so you can't get one lens to do everything!

The other problem is that if it is snowing, the snowflakes will get behind the lens, and you won't be able to see anything.

I've tried everything over the years, but have finally realised that if you won't, or don't want to wear goggles, then you need two types of glasses with different lens (or the type that you can change the lens), and don't use them when it's snowing.

Of course it's practical. I've done it and have friends that do. You NEED to see what you are doing to be safe. There are goggles that fit over glasses and, I believe (since bicycle 'goggles' have this), sport goggles that allow prescription lenses to be inserted in them. While you can get by without the goggles, the cold air blowing in your eyes (around your glasses) can make your eyes tear up OR get dry...

You should always be using goggles snowboarding. Safety reasons mainly, but these safty reasons do affect you riding. You want to be able to see going off and landing a jump. And i kno it sounds crazy, but it is possible to get snow in your eyes when its snowing, and it does actually hurts sometimes. So google is a good idea while snowboarding

Stylish, maybe sunglasses. But goggles are definitely better, they stay on easier, and they're easier to keep hold of. Get a cute pair of goggles !
