max performance for gaming?

I want to stop all non-essential services and programs in order to optimize my gaming experience. Can anyone tell me which processes are essential to keep my pc stable. I only need graphics and sound so can I also stop processes such as 'explorer' and the like? thanx in advance

best i could tell you is to research each process through google.

you can't stop explorer.. heheh thats windows gui.. then again.. you can try and just run it through a cmd or the run command from cad task manager.

easy way would be go to msconfig (from run) and turn off all the startups and all the services.. (just uncheck the 2 on the first page and restart.
