Would you say no to someone you just met on the net who ask you for money?

The reason for the question is this happened to me a while back. You see this girl had seen my provile on an other service and got in touch with me. Every thing was going great for the first few weeks. We sent pictures to each othet chated many times about what we liked. She even went on to say she wanted to spent her life with me cause she thought she met her soulmate. Then one day out of the blue on a chat she ask if I could lend her 700.00 dollars. I said no. Because I could not bring myself to send money to someone I just met on the net. I did explain it to her the best I could but I think she did not understand. I have not her of her since then. I just hope I did the right thing. In the back of my mind the word scam was calling out at me. Now I won't chat with anyone. Cause all I was looking for was someone to have a good conversation with. So that is why I am now on the Yahoo Answers which I enjoy very much

Thanks for your time

Yes, this screams scam to me. I don't think you have to avoid chatting with people, especially since this is what you are looking to do, but I would never send money to someone I had never met before, especially if they asked for that much. Good for you to not be taken.

You did the right thing. I was trying to make a deal happen in S Africa when this guy asked me for a $1,000, then an iPhone. Not only did I refuse, but I asked him if he was a business man, why is he asking me an American for money and a gift. She thought she had a sucker. It may have been a man in prison, trying to scam you.

SCAM! You're smart and very perceptive to realize that this sounds like a classic scam. Become friends and ask for money and never hear from them again! Everyone beware, not only online but with other friends as well.

I can't imagine anyone thinking you'd be foolish enough to even consider sending money to a total stranger. You did the right thing!!! If she was just using you to get money, you don't need that!!! She might have been a 70 year old man. How would you know?

Sounds to me like you answered your own question. No matter how well you explained it to her she probably wasn't listening and just moved on to the next person. Not sending the money was absolutely the best choice.

She was trying to scam you. Unfortunately the internet makes it easy for scammers to find unsuspecting marks. Good for you for not sending the money.
