Does anyone know when Phil Hughes & Ian Kennedy will return to the Yankees as starters?

Understandably after their horrid starts, not much is said of these two progress and expected return date the Yankees starting rotation.

Does anyone know when they are expected to return to the Yankees (not the minors) as starters?

Kennedy is expected to come back most likely a week or 2 after the all - star break they were expecting him back around the break. And Phil Hughes isn't expected to come back till September. It is unclear whether the Yankees will keep Dan Giese and Darrel Rasner for a little longer and have Kennedy pitch in the minors for a little bit after he comes of the disabled list.

Since the current rotation isn't doing so badly, it will be interesting to see what happens when Hughes, Kennedy, and Wang are all finally healthy again. I don't see Pettitte, Mussina, or Chamberlain going anywhere anytime soon. so these guys returning from the DL might all have to compete for Rasner and Ponson's spots. I guess that leaves the Yankees in a pretty good place right now, with the possibility of having 5 guys (Hughes, Kennedy, Wang, Rasner, and Ponson) potentially competing for two spots in the rotation. (I know they aren't all coming back at the same time, but still, they are ALL going to have to prove that they are starter material again before anyone hands them the ball).

No matter what, Rasner and Ponson haven't done so badly for the Yankees, with the exception of a few rough spots here and there. Even if they get sent back down, it will be nice to know that they are there when they are needed in the future.

  • Kennedy may come back this season and take Rasner's spot (Rasner has sucked as of late).

Hughes threw off a mound for the first time since April 29th yesterday and he is expected to start pitching in minor league games in August. Brian Cashman doesn't expect him to come back to the Yankees until 2009.

I think they both suck. As does Darrel Rasner.

Heres my bullpen picks in the order of general talent, not necessarily starters.

    Mo

    Andy

    Joba

    Moose

    Ponson

    Ramirez

    Farnsworth

    Jose Veras

    Darrel Rasner*

Thats the only ones worth mentioning, and *Rasner needs a stint at scranton with ian, phil and kei & they should bring Ross Ohlendorf back up in his place..

Girardi said that Kennedy has to earn his spot back so there are no guarantees.

Hughes could be back by August.
