why wont the united states government legalize hemp?

first off im not here to listen to every one preach its bad! I know its considered a drug but its good attributes are, medicine, cloths, rope, couldnt they make pellets for pellet stoves out of the stems. the point is that our economy is down right now and are debt is at and all time high i say let it grow and manufacture and sell hemp products in the us and tax it and lower the national debt ...plus it would creat new jobs in manufacturing and farming a big boost is what this country needs... i would like to hear your thoughts on the matter..

The american mindset is to stop all evil and wrong doing and assimilate the world to it's freedom for all and "ethics".

Drugs would go under the evil, and wrong doing, since it hurts so many and tears lives apart...in this instance. So america has to put a stop to it.

I personally have never heard of anyone being high on marijuana doing anything brash. You?

Maybe driving too slow. Or eating way too much, or stealing things they had the money for. (that last one was in the paper here, he'd stolen visine worth about $4 when he had $14 in his pocket and forgot it was there)

Other than that, I don't see any harm done, you're right medicinal purposes, cloth, rope...don't need too much rope but I get it. America sometimes gets too proud as someone else mentioned they wouldn't want to admit they are WRONG about marijuana.

Hemp is legal. I have tanning lotion with hemp in it. You can buy hemp rope, lotions, clothes, and etc.

This is how it's grown. You may grow male marijuana plants in the US (they do not produce the buds that are smoked), but if there is a female caught being grown that is illegal because they do produce the buds even if no buds are present.

Also I'm pretty sure you must be registered so that the government can check up on you at any time to ensure you are not infact growing female plants.

There are a lot of people making a lot of money off of illegal weed.

    This is a partial listing:

    1. Every politician that runs on a tough on crime or no drugs platform.

    2. Every police department or government agency that enforces the laws against marijuana.

    3. The alcohol companies that have monopoly on the only legal high in America.

And you need to keep in mind that right now the only people that have and use marijuana (with medical marijuana being the only exception) are criminals. Therefore there is the argument that where you find pot you are more likely to find other crime.

It would be an 'about-face', or a humiliating change of law. Here - they have invested hundreds of millions of dollars prosecuting people, giving DEA jobs, creating bodies of government against hemp, that there is too much invested in keeping hemp illegal. It's a matter of the path of least resistance at this point in time. However, the more people speak out against it, the more the government must do to adopt the tolerance, eventually, they will have to wean themselves off the excessive prosecution that is downright overzealous. One of the most idiotic things to note is how they tell you how much smoking will ruin your life but then they lock you up, give you costly fines, a criminal record, essentially ruining your life anyway. The drug laws make no sense and instead of the drug users being harmed physically, the government assumes the role by destroying them emotionally and handicapping them to the point of not being able to get jobs because of their criminal records. Makes no sense to me but thats America for you.

Personally, I am against weed but I think it should be treated the same way as alcohol. Gotta be a certain age to buy it, etc. The government could tax it the same way as they do cigarettes or whatever and still get their share of the sales. It would also free up a lot of jail space for real criminals.

I think a couple of other people hit the nail on the head on why it wouldn't be legalized. It would be easy for anyone to grow it without having to pay the gov't their "share" and that too much has been invested to fight it.

Mostly what cousin says but let me add that there would be no way for the government to control it's supply and demand and get a monopoly on it because it's so easy to grow so therefore there would be no way to tax or benefit from it. And after years of watching those "above the influence" commercials I think out government would feel stupid admiting that it's just a little pot so let'em have it.

I don't care if they legalize it or no longer...I'm simply considering on how the federal government would tax it! And higher but, I can not aid laughing for the reason that i'm trying to believe of what the tax can be known as...LOLOLOLOL.... That must be your next question: what will the federal government call the tax on prostitution?

The pharmaceutical companies practically own the government, and they have a vested interest in making sure that only THEIR dangerous drugs are sold legally. Can't have any competition from people selling something cheaper and less lethal than the bizarre drugs the FDA approves as safe.

They are more politicians on cocaine that really needs to be replaced. For example , there is a Friend of mine that played country music in the White House , he said in the bathrooms there was lines of Cocaine on the sink tops and every one was doing them , Now isn't that a Kicker. So whats the problem about a joint.
