Incandescent Light Bulb Ban In The US?

How do you feel about the incandescent light bulbs being banned in the us by 2012. I have several compact florescent bulbs in my lamps that are shaped like incandesents, and I love them, but there are some fixtures that require incandescent bulbs in my house and it would be too costly to replace the fixtures over a bulb, plus walk in closets a compact florescent would not work, because you would have to wait for it to warm up so you can see your clothes.

The reason the government picked 2012 is because that's when the world comes to an end, they know it's a stupid law too. The new bulbs suck and will only save energy if you live in a cave. If they were serious about energy usage they would outlaw appliances and power tools. Want low light with no bulbs? Put a TV or a computer in every room and leave them on. Be sensible, stock up on the old bulbs. Government regulations and 'green idiots' will be our demise.

The bulbs are NOT being banned because they are incandescent. Incandescents that do not meet the new efficiency standards will be banned.

For the first time since their invention, the makers of incandescent bulbs are having to worry about the efficiency. It'sgoing to beinteresting to see what GE and Philips come up with.

You can also consider socket-compatible LED lights for the walk-in closet. Right now they are expensive, but the price had dropped by 50% in the last year, and they will be competitive with the flourescents real soon. An advantage is that they can be used in dimmer switches.

I don't like them, they're too dim. I'm blind in one eye and need as much light as I can get.

Just a reminder: All light fixtures have a sticker on them stating the maximum wattage bulb that may be used. You should NEVER use a higher wattage bulb, a fixture can only dissipate so much heat at a time.

And it could cause real problems. For example:Say there was a house fire, the fire inspector determines that it was caused by a light fixture that was rated for a 40 watt bulb but had a 100 watt light bulb installed. An Insurance company COULD call that "negligence" and lessen or possibly deny a claim.

    ***Insurance people? Could this happen?***

Some of the new bulbs work really well and are at 100% straight away. Some have soft light and others have a blue light. My whole house is done with the new bulbs and I love them.

I support the ban!! If it were me, I'd put the ban into affect right now. Fixtures don't require incandescent bulbs, they just say that. In my grandma's house some of her fixtures said "incandescent bulb required", but I put florescent in them & they work just fine. One of them was the kicthen stove hood, & the florescent has been in there more than a year, & is brighter than the other. As for your closets, paint them a real light cream color, white, or any really light color.

Not only do the new bulls contain a dangerous mercury but also run hotter. So when you put in a 60 watt bulb it runs hotter than the old ones-BEWARE AN INCREASE IN HOUSE FIRES. I now a good place to install the new bulbs.-bend over you stupid environmentalists.

Florescent bulbs contain mercury with is not only very harmful to the environment but causes many diseases. People will get sick from there production, use, and disposal. After many years and many deaths the news headline will read "Florescent bulbs killing kids". Then, the lawsuits will commence.

I am buying up as many old bulbs as possible before the ban. I have tried the new ones and they blow.

not until they make a three way bulb and take the mercury out so that if one breaks you have to take extereme caution when cleaning it up. the money saved in use is insignificant. the energy used in making them far exceeds the savings in operation.

THe wait for the warm up is very very short and nearly nonnoticable. I can tell if i turn it on, walk aay for 2-3 mintues and come back... but only if i am trying to.

Believe me... you'll be able to see your clothes.
