Urgent iPod Trouble! Is my Brother-like iPod Shuffle going to be lost forever????
URGENT URGENT URGENT!!!!
Ok... my iPod Shuffle has been working fine for about 3 years now, but today when I opened up iTunes with it, this message appeared:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
I tried disconnecting, but that doesnt work. When I tried to restore my iPod, this message showed up:
"Are you sure you want to restore the iPod "iPod" to its factory settings? All of your songs and other data will be erased."
There were two choices, "Restore", and "Cancel". I clicked on restore, and the regular loading window showed up. When it finished loading, this message popped up:
"The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. Unkown error occurred. (1418)"
Ok, I've been as detailed as possible, so please try to help me with my iPod trouble! Thanks!
where could i find a repair center? i dont know of any repair centers in my area! Would it cost money?

I recommend first BACKING UP your files so you won't loose everything. Here's how to copy them onto your computer:
1.) Open "My Computer" the iPod should be automatically detected as a portable hard drive. Click on the iPod icon.
2.) If you don’t see a folder called “iPod Control”, it’s hidden and invisible. To unhide, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.”
3.) Open the “iPod Control” folder, and then the Music folder.
The Music folder contains the iPod’s music and videos, divided into folders. Copy the library to local computer hard drive’s My Music folder (or the folder you want to save the files in on the computer hard drive).
Once you have synced your ipod (choose the "restore" option you were talking about that will erase all the songs, but now they are backed up so should be OK) your ipod should be fixed and you can put the songs back on:
1.) The files copied have unintelligible four-letter file names. To reveal the names of the songs and other data tags, add the files to the Windows Media Player or iTunes libraries or switch to “Tiles” view in Windows Explorer.
2.) Drag saved songs from library to Ipod
IF IT STILL WON'T SYNC: You can contact Best Buy, they have live help online (would try that first and if they can't tell you how to fix, ask how much it would be to drop off at the store to fix)
Source(s): Been there... PS: You can also download idump which will automatically backup the songs for you without going through this process: http://www.download.com/iDump/3000-2169_4-10407429... - 5 years ago

Most of the time, especially with the shuffle, it is cheaper to just buy a new one. They usually only have a 1 year warranty unless you upgraded when you bought it!
