If you learned one new word a week and used it in sentences, would your friends think you were really smart?

Not likely. Why do you care so much that they think you're smart, anyway?

Don't try to trick them, because that won't impress them.

Tell them what you're doing. Tell them the definition and give each other points whenever you can work the word correctly into actual conversation. Every player picks a word every week; more points if you can use multiple words for the week in a sentence! Points for continuing to use words from previous weeks!

Not necessarily. A lot of times I think people who go out of their way to use uncommon words in sentences are just showing off. Improving your vocabulary is a great idea, but don't be annoying in trying to impress people.

I tryed this once and it gave me a headache, made me sleepy and the book that had all the words in it didn't have a plot. I think it was titled, "The Dictionary". So, I'll just stick to "Yahoo Answers" from now on. It don't have a plot, but , it does have mystery and a laugh, sometimes.

Well it would help to improve your vocabulary which would help you speak more intelligently. However, that doesn't mean your friends are going to think you are smarter. In fact, you might come across as pretentious. But, there is nothing wrong with wanting to improve your vocabulary so if it's something that's important to you, I would do it. But not because you want to impress your friends.
