No, if you buy the new iPhone 3G, you are required to sign a new contract, the cheapest one is $69 a month and if you already at&t you have to cancel your contract for the new one, i dont think you are charged cancellation fee though

but if you want to just transfer your sim, you can buy an iphone no contract from AT&T for $599

btw, the first answerer said the iphone must have a "fresh" sim card, not true, i have personally seen both iphones take used AT&T cards

You will actually have to get a new sim card. The iPhone is the only device that will not accept used sim cards, it has to be a "clean" card. When you activate it in the store, your old card will be "deactivated."

you don't transfer sim cards you get the iphone activated with the new 2 year contract and your old sim card gets deactivated.

You have to sign the 2 year agreement and pay atleast 30 extra monthly plus text (optional)

Apple Stores are working with AT&T.

You sign the contract either way
