Alternatives to the pill?

I lost 20 lbs after coming off the pill several months ago.

Fiance and I have been using condoms, but they've been a serious sex-drive killer, to the point where we don't have sex to avoid the condom.

STDs are not a concern - this is year 3, and we've both been tested.

Has anyone had any experience with affective birth control methods that may not make me gain weight?

Update:

ugh... I would gain the 20 lbs back before I continued to use condoms. The lack of sex is becoming a serious problem in our relationship.

I love the Depo shot, and I've never had a problem with it. No periods! That's the best. I've had friends that gained weight on it but it depends person to person how your body will react.

Here are some links about it:

This is pretty normal for birth control...I was in your same situation and tried everything to restore it. I switched pills a couple times and gave up, the libido was just not coming back. I then found a natural herbal enhancer that is supposed to increase your sex drive and a couple other things. It's called Hersolution gel, read up about it at herenhancement.com where I saved on it at the time. However it's like an instant libido rush and as I kept using it my sex drive was through the roof and continues to be. The sensation blast is great too, I can't tell you how many times I've had multiple orgasms when before I couldn't even get a single one. Theres also capsules you can take that I've heard are better but I don't like swallowing many pills throughout the day. I was skeptical at first but the return policy was so great that the company was offer. From what I remember you had to try it out for a couple months but then you had time afterwards to return it for a full money back if it didn't work. I didn't have that problem as you can see. Well good luck and I hope this helps.

You know, between my sister and myself, we've probably tried everything. I'm the one who always used the hormonal methods, for medical reasons, and heck yeah I gained weight all over the place. Luckily stopping the hormones meant it all came off again. My sister used a diapragm.

Ok, it sounds more complicated than a condom, but it's not. It's non hormonal, he doesn't have to wear a raincoat, and you can leave it in place for hours, in fact, I think you have to. In any case, if it fits properly and you insert it properly (your doctor will give you a crash course) you can't feel it. And if you use it properly (spermicide every time), it's as effective as a condom. My sister loved it.

I don't know about those IUD thingies. I know that the Mirena IUD is all modern and all that, but IUDs in general have some bad-*** side effects, and these do contain some hormones. Plus they can make your periods super heavy. Also, with the current generation of IUDs, some recent research suggests that they're just as dangerous as the nasties used in the 1970s.

Go for the non-hormonal bc. If you can't stand the condom (and I wonder why not, they're really not that intrusive, and putting them on as a collaborative effort can be rather amusing, unless you're just a pair of impulsive young things by nature), the diaphragm might just do the trick. Sure, there's an up-front cost, but you don't have to keep going to the store and buying party hats, and the spermicide you buy lasts a while before you run out.

    Hope that helps!

I would consider using a IUD it is a internal birth control, or the patch. The shot and the pill can cause serious weight gain. Talk to the Doctor and see what they say, but there maybe no other way to do this than using Condoms if you dont want to get pregnant.
