Is it open office that has a free download or is it no longer free?

Actually, OpenOffice has a free version and a "pro" version which is not free. Possibly you tried the unpaid version.

OpenOffice is not only excel, but a whole Office Suite. This means that everything is included:

OpenOffice Writer---Like MS word

OpenOffice Calc-----Like excel

OpenOffice Impress----like powerpoint

OpenOffice Base-like MS database

OpenOffice Draw---MS paint with a twist

OpenOffice Math----something new they came up with, its basically a place where u can write formulas and stuff.

Star Office, from google, is basically the same thing with a different name:

pack.google.com (select only openoffice and download)

OxygenOffice is a new version, it is OpenOffice with a twist:
