XP only goes up to DX 9. Vista has DX 10 built in.

Direct X 10 of course.
You need Vista for Direct 10 though.

Crysis will run better on DX 9.0 on Vista. You will lose the the better graphics of DX10, but will have better performance.
Dont expect to get many FPS though as Crysis is very resource hungry
I run it on E6750/8800 GTS/4 GB memory/Vista 64bit
I can get about 30-40 fps on high, DX10 1440x900, with AA turned off.
The same under DX9 gives 50-60 fps.

I belive it need 10, if not i would use 10 any way because it is great for speed and textures, if you went down to 9 it may not be supported or it would look like last generation games. click me for best answer
