Old ones yes 100,000 miles is a trip around the block no harm done ready for 150K more before any real work needs to be done. OLD IS up to 1988/89 *(changeover years to the the junk)

AVERAGE EXPECTATIONS----->Newer BMWs 100K is 50K less to the first huge repair bill usually the cylinder head but a lot of the time a whole new engine and trans. Transmissions vary from model to model but on average a newer BMW needs a new transmission at 125K or so.

Good engineering is not what features it has and how well it does it, good engineering is when the parts of that feature last land last..

That would not be a good idea. BMWs normally have lots of problems with the electronics when they get older. What year is it? it has to be at least 5 years old.

I wouldnt do it if I were u....dont go past 40-50k miles

  • BMS are expensive to maintain. If you are going to buy a BMW with over 100K miles on it make sure a mechanic gives checks it out first. The most reliable BMW engines are in the 318 model BMWs. The 318 models are know to make it to 200K miles. I own a 1998 318ti with 107K miles on it and its still going strong and looks good. 318ti is one of the most reliable BMW ever made. I would stay away from all other BMW with more than 100K on them unless the owner maintained it well.

My Volvo has 160,000 miles and the 280ZX that I owned had 185,000 miles. Volvo 240s are know for 300,000 miles and up. Your BMW should easily get 200,000 miles if you take care of it. (Especially with what they cost.) I've had friends who had a Cherokee with 195,000 and another with a 1976 Lemans that had close to 200,000 miles.

You need to be weary about any car with that amount of miles. Personally, I wouldn't buy any car that had over 70,000. I suggest going for something with less miles if you want it to last. Good luck.
