I've done a lot of research about residential wind power and I've been working on some resources for people trying to get started. There are a lot of options and things are changing fast as new technologies are developed.

A commercial product like the Skystream 3.7 (the most popular residential wind turbine from what I can tell) comes with a cost of $12,000-$15,000 after installation costs are factored in. There are many other less traditional turbines coming available as well and there is the option to build your own. A new set of plans was just released this month that promises fully-illustrated, step-by-step instructions on how to make your own windmill and solar panels for less than $200 each. The product is called Earth4Energy.

There is a great article in a Popular Mechanics called off the grid (March 2005 Debunking 9/11 Lies on the cover ) that details how one family created an electrically self sufficient home. In the article there are a couple of books mention called Wind Power Comes of Age and Wind Power for Home, Farm, and Business by Paul Gripe, I'd go down to the library and see if I could get these or other books on the subject. Next I'd check with your township offices to make sure you can put up a tower, finally I'd check around on the internet for Wind Power, or Home Windmills there are several companies that sell and install wind turbines, they'd be the people to check with for both power needs, cost, and availability in your area.

In Australia windmills are used for generators

We do have huge wind turbines for wind power near coastal regions and they are doing well

As for the cost I wouldn't dare even try and quote on that I'm sure all you would need is one or another way is solar panels on your roof I know some people who only have this as electricity, matter a fact they sell off excess to power companies.

Its all done by truck batteries in a shed better look it up I think

I have just seen this week that Samsclub.com has solar wind generators for sale. A great sign of the times and things to come!

The prices are from 500.00-2000.oo I do not know much about Kwh or electricity so I am not sure how much wind they produce or how much you will need to help you achieve your goals, I Want one too!!!
