well my friend u can only fight monsters you and your buddy when on the bottom right corner of the screen or two swords crossing each other like an X that area is called a multi fight zone where more than one player can fight monsters in that area.

on the other hand if there is no two swords then that means the first player to attack the monster fights it no one else can interfere unless he runs away then some 1 can finish the monster off.
