Jefferson Davis is said to have visited the Hunley. Abraham Lincoln never visited the Alligator.

There were several Presidents who were capable of visiting the Intelligent Whale but I've never heard of any of them visiting it.

William McKinley was President in April of 1900 when the US Submarine Fleet was founded with the USS Holland and 6 others were ordered and built, but there is no record of McKinley having officially visited any of them.

Theodore Roosevelt, McKinleys successor, was the first President known to have been inside of a submarine and to have gone to sea submerged on one.

Jimmy Carter is the only President whose career path has taken him through the US Submarine Fleet.

D.D. Eisenhower is the first President to have been to sea in a nuclear powered submarine and ballistic missile submarine when he rode the USS George Washington in September 1957. He had been on two other submarines when he was stationed in Panama early in his Army career.

Many ballistic missile submarines have been named for Presidents and one special fast attack submarine is named for Jimmy Carter.
