An acquaintance of mine shop lifts. Should I turn her in?

If so, how do I prove it If no once catches her in the act as she does not normally go back to the same stores.

she will be caught eventually. Just don't invite her to your house.

    The KEYWORD here is "acquaintance"!

Look, she's not a relative, a close friend or even a person you GENUINELY care about. Therefore, you should not care and if you do don't be a snitch. The right time will come and she'll get caught! Don't tangle yourself in situations that will reveal something that you cannot handle.

Why are you so out to "catch her" is what really makes me curious though...

i believe that anything that happens in the darkness usually comes to light, it is not wise for you to turn her in .It will catch up with her in time ,i strongly suggest you let her know how low and disgusting what she is doing is and that we all pay for shoplifters and fraud artists actions

If she fails to heed your warning then simply separate yourself from her so you are not labelled like her and that if you go out with her spare yourself the embarrassment of being there when she is caught and that you are not accused of being a look out or accessory, you know the saying "birds of a feather flock together "

Do not report her at best you can tell her family only if you are close to them so they can have an intervention and try to save her ,but do not go to the police under any circumstance as you may regret this for a long time to come and other friends may be afraid of you as wheather you believe it or not nobody like hang around a so called rat for so many reasons as none of us are perfect and the very thought of being around an informer freaks most people out,and do not accept anything from her as this will also protect you and send a strong message to her

The only way you could turn her in is if you did so right inside of the store.

Even then if she just drops the products on the floor and walks out the store nothing will happen.

As far as whether you should turn her it or not; that is a question of morals and you should choose for yourself whether it's right or not. Don't let someone else choose for you.

While I wouldn't turn her in, I would let her know that you disapprove of her behaviour. Tell her that you don't want her to shoplift while she is with you and that you will not aid her in doing so. If she starts to brag about shoplifting, ask her not to do so around you.

As her friend, you are showing her respect by letting her do what she wants and not turning her over to the authorities, so she should provide you with the same respect by not talking about it and/or attempting it around you, because you've asked her not to.

You must live in an awfully big town if there are that many stores.....It's your word against hers. But definitely don't go shopping with her -- or anywhere else for that matter. Have you spoken to her about it and told her (not suggested) that she needs help now?

Just quietly pull her over and give her a pep talk that shop lifting is wrong. But if she does it after that, quietly turn her in. She doesn't even have to know that it was you. Good luck :P

Don't be a snitch. America has become the biggest police state in the world--the most prisoners, even more than in China which has over 3x as many people as we do. The longest sentences. Don't ever do anything to help the police.

I wouldn't turn her in because these people always get caught in the end by becoming careless. If she is a teenager then I would maybe let her parents have a chat with her.

I wouldn't turn her in (I wouldn't go shopping with her, either - because you can get dragged in if she does get caught). Chances are she'll get caught on her own if she keeps doing it anyway and the store will have the proof they need.

It is the best way to teach personal responsibility and accountiblity for our actions by having to face the consequences of those actions.

You would prove it by being a "witness."
