Do you have a dog that actually sits in front of the TV and watches it?
We have a Labrador (2 years old) that sits in front of the TV and watches it. Is this normal? We thought she might think the sound was someone talking to her and put the remote on "mute" and she still sat and watched. She is a smart and lovable dog and learns/trains easily.

My puppy doesn't usually watch tv but she does pay attention when the old star trek episodes are on. I think she likes all of the sound effects (beep boop beep etc). She'll sit there with her head turned to the side and will occasionally go and investigate behind the tv to try to see where all the wierd noises are coming from. It's the only show she'll watch. We joke and say she's a trekie. And yes, I know I'm a geek for watching star trek. I blame my dad for having them on when I was a kid. :)

All my dogs like to watch animal planet shows, but mainly only when a dog is barking or an animal is running. One of my Chihuahua loves watching Curious George. He'll actually sit there and watch it the PBS show. We even bought the movie for him. That's the only cartoon he does that with though.

My female Corgi....does not watch tv, but when Animal Planet comes on with Animal Cops...and the dogs barking..watch out. She is running around the house and looking out of the slider looking for that dog. It is fun to watch her and in the meantime she is getting to burn off some energy. Otherwise when a dog barks on another show and she is sleeping she gets out of her bed and barks and does not even know why. Silly dog anyways..but I still love her.

I have an australlian cattle dog, the only time I've ever seen her pay any mind to the TV is when a dog barks, but sometimes she even ignores that.
I've seen dogs watch though, its better then staring at the rug or the back of his eyelids I guess!

Not on a regular basis, but they have. Once my St. Bernard got so interested in some show on Animal Planet about hyenas. I wasn't that interested in it, but he was so intrigued that I left it on for him. I had to tell my daughter, "Don't change the channel, Harry's watching it." She looked at me like I was insane, but soon we were both watching Harry watching TV.
Every time the hyenas would do that laugh sound, Harry would stop panting, close his mouth, perk up his ears and hold his head up higher. They'd stop and he'd relax. It was pretty funny.
