do people have "magic" powers?
i think we all have "magic" powers, like telekinesis, psychic abilities, telepathy, etc. but we just don't know how to use them. like, for example, scientists say we only use about 10% of our brain. what is that other 90%? i think it is all the things i listed. and possibly more we don't even know about. can you imagine when people use 100% of their brain? what do you think about this? i mean can you imagine what the world would be like when we do use our whole brain? and is there research being done on this (if you have any links tell me)?
oh i only said magical because i didn't really know what other word to use. hence the " "

This is really a question MEANT for the Parapsychology or Alternative Science questions section on Yahoo! Answers, but since I know a but about Psychology and Biology, I feel I can answer this question:
Firstly, we do NOT use 10% of our brains. This is very wrong. I've done neuro-anatomy, and I can tell you one thing -- IF we only used 10% of our brain, then why would we NEED the other 90%? If we didn't need it, then brain size would be decreasing -- this is NOT happening. Evolution provides us a simple shred of evidence against this too -- if you look at all the human-ape like ancestors -- you can see a common trend -- the cranium size (cranium meaning "the skull") is only increasing -- doesn't this indicate to you that our brain size is getting bigger?
Secondly, we DO use all of our brain but the thing is your entire brain doesn’t work at once. Your brain is organized into sections that specialize in certain functions – like balance, understanding language, speaking, logic, Vision… these parts also are not bunched up in one area! Different tasks require different parts of your brain to co-operate in order to coordinate a single behavior you do. This is all a complicated topic that requires understanding – you learn about these things at University, as I have.
As for things like telekinesis and other related abilities, keep in mind what you see is not ALWAYS true – but of course, there are things that ARE unexplained in our world, right? How do you explain these? Well – despite the fact our brain is an amazing and complicated mass of neurons, I don’t personally believe in “magical powers” (yet). There is a lack of evidence for it – BUT there is a branch of Psychology, called Parapsychology that aims to study all these “abilities”. Currently, evidence is not exactly favorable in supporting “magical abilities” as being “real”. But as techniques in Science – specifically Psychology, develop… one day maybe we’ll have a better understanding toward this section of human mysteries…
If you’re interested in looking for studies, look up “Parapsychology” or look up “Social Psychology”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parapsychology has some basic info.

I think that we all have some supernatural ability's to a degree. My mother did an experiment on me (No harm done so relax lol) where she put a deck of card down, face up and turned away. She then "thought" the card at me and I picked it every time. We did this ten times. I do believe the more we use our brains and the smarter we are, the more ability's we use. I am not smart by any means, street smart and book smart, but my IQ is a little above average 123. My mother however is, according to the resent tests, 155. (Einsteins was 160) hence the fact her ability's are better than mine. I have premonitions and they almost always come true, but that is the existent of it.

I may have some. It's not 99.9% possible, it's about 11.6 if you think about it. Some people think you can never use magic, no matter how hard you try to use it. I don't belive in that, however.
Is it a problem if you use it but cannot stop it from happening? There is no way we humans will EVER know... unless we work really hard to find out. Like Elsa from Frozen. She had powers but was unable to control them and eventually froze her sister.

If we're supposed to have those abilities, then I wouldn't say that they're "magical" in any way. But yes, I do believe that if we used 100% of our brains we'll be near omniscient, and we will have telekinetic abilities and telepathy, etc. Until we discover how we can increase our brain usage, we can only use what we know now.

Supposedly my great grandmother could sense when bad things would happen. She could also feel like someone was coming to her house and 5 minutes later or so, someone would show up on her doorstep!
My mom told me that one day when I was sitting at home and I went to grab my phone....I like ran to get it. My mom says "Why are you running to your phone?" and I said "Because someone is about to call". She's like no way, you can't know that. When I touched my phone, it started ringing. It was really weird. That's when my mom told me about my great grandmother. One day I was on the way to my grandmother's house and I was telling my mom that my grandma was going to be upset and crying. She looked at me and asked why, and I said I just had this feeling she was upset. So we got to her house and she was crying because her brother had died.
So I think some people might have telekinesis and stuff. But its not really strong and it may not be too noticable, so they just ignore it. I'm going to do some research on this stuff:)

I'm not for certain, but I think the "10%" thing regards the thinking portion of your brain. Just like you only use 20% of your muscle's strength to keep the body in equilibrium.

no no no, i thought the SAME exact thing until i took bio this year.
you see, the 10% that you are referring to refers to the thinking part of your brain.
the 90% is in regards to other functions such as involuntary reactions, balance, etc.
here is a good way of disproving your theory: if we use 10% of our brain, and there is 90% left that we can use, how come when someone damages a miniscule part of their brain, it can affect them so deeply?
see? its because we use certain parts of our brains for certain functions. in the "thinking" part, we only use 10%, but (for example) for involuntary movments, its 50%
see?
hahai thought the same thing as you did but yeah...its not true sadly.

you're wrong though some people agree and would defend their beliefs to the death. we don't use all of our brainpower usually but can learn to increase usage by THINKING
