When writing letters to get to know a person, what do you write about that won't seem so self centered?
Ok, so I'm currently "talking" to this guy I have never officially met before while he is finishing up technical training for the Air Force in Texas. After talking on the phone a couple of times we realized how much we had in common. Now that school's ending soon and he's got about a month and a half left he doesn't have too much time to shoot the breeze on the phone. So we've started letter writing but I'm having trouble.. I want him to know more about me, my personality, my life, my plans.. that sort of thing.. BUT I don't want to sound self centered, conceeded, or anything else that would make him think those things.. We meet in a month and we have so much in common! I just don't know where to start in a letter..
See additional info for the background of the situation - thanks in advance! : ]
One night the power went out in the city so some friends and I had a "party by candle light" to pass time. Thier friend just got out of boot camp and it was his birthday so they called him on speaker phone letting everyone say heyyy and happy birthdayyy. I didn't know this guy so jokingly and very obnoxiously I started randomly asking him questions.. his name, rank, future plans, favorite food, musical taste.. until they took the phone from me and that was that. A few hours later he called my friend back and wanted to know more about me and for me to send him a picture.. So he did and the next day he called me and it's been so crazy but we clicked. It's like I found my matching puzzle piece! There's never an akward silence on the phone or anything..

Just ask questions about the other person. Tell them about your world and what is happening. Just write as you would talking to a new person. Simple.

Just stick to the last line! Going into all that detail was way too much for any guy! I think keeping it short and sweet is good....and leaves him to figure out why you left.... everything else is unnecessary, since it will make him see how badly all this affected you! Don't give him that luxury of knowing you've been hurt deeply by his stupidity! Leave him in the dust.... He is not worth your time! Not even a second! Move on and squoosh him to the ground!

why not send him a fun survey -- asking questions about himself that you want to know -- tell him that you will take it to. Then, pick a certain day and a certain time, you can both mail back your responses so they arrive around the same time. I just did a quick Google Search "get to know you survey questions" -- the first link is listed below, "The Ultimate Get to Know you Survey". Good Luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as you find a good mix between talking about yourself and asking about him, you should be fine. If you have clicked as well as you say, he's already going to be inclined to think of you in a positive way. Remember, he wants to know these things, so he's going to be happy your sharing it with him.
