Please help me solve this problem with my computer.....?

I have a HP Pavilion notebook and I have a weird thing going on. It will suddenly switch to a blue screen that says basically, that it has had a problem and is now shutting down to protect my hard drive. It stays on that screen for about 2 minutes and then goes to the windows start up screen. This continues in a loop until I stop it.

BTW - we are running Windows XP, if that makes a difference.

Now here is the weird part. It is a fake alert. I can go back to anything I was doing by simply pressing F4 or F8. Nothing is changed or shut down - just normal. Also, if I am sitting here working on something it won't do it, just if there is more than a couple minutes of idle time. It almost works like a screensaver, but that's not what it is. I have not downloaded or installed anything recently and I have tried rolling back to a previous restore point (2 actually) and nothing is helping.

I am running AVG anti virus anti malware and spybot on this comp but this got missed somehow.

Update:

Also, I had a pop under that apparently loaded something called Anti-virus XP 2008. I went to my program add and remove and tried to uninstall it and deleted anything I could find that was associated with that file, but it left something behind apparently and still shows up in my programs

Update 2:

Well, we have had AVG for over a year and it updates as needed automatically. I have it completely up to date at all times.Do you have any suggestions for a good program to clean it out? We recently backed up all of our important files, so that's covered, but I prefer to do something non-destructive so I don't have to spend the next month re-loading and updating my comps files and progs.

Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info/

What u need to do is stop scanning the computer and take off everything that is important and reformat the hardrive. After u reformat it make sure u download the most current version of AVG to keep You pretected from these kinda things..
