I have problems caused by lack of computer 'know how'.?

Somewhere, I have ticked a box which has caused this problem, ( I think). Whenever I try to research a second page on the internet, I get a notice which asks me whether I want to "Cancel" or to "Close all tabs". It gives me no other options.

Consequently, I lose the first page of work. I would be grateful for any help that you can give. I have Home Edition XP, probably 2003.

Can you keep it as simple as possible.?I am probably more ignorant of computers than you give me credit for. Thankyou.

Update:

I will still lose my previous data.

Update 2:

Thankyou Patrol man. At least it has not closed ALL the windows so will do some more practising.

Andre, so far have not tried your's but I see how to do it. Thankyou all.

Update 3:

Thank you for your help. I found a site which rectified the problem several clicks down the "Tools" tab.

you havnt done anything to stuff up your computer. However you are clicking the wrong X. Don't click the red X in the top right hand corner of the page, instead when you click on the tab, (the pages open in a window) there is a small grey x. His x closes only the page your on and not both/all of them.

You could try using the minimise button which looks like this "-". To me it looks like you are closing the window with a button that look like this "x".

Alternatively you could try working with 'tabs' by going to file and selecting "New tab" (or by pressing "ctrl"+"t"). Tabs enale you to switch from one page to another within the same window. You should see the different 'tabs near the top of the window but underneath your address bar.
