The vet opens in 45 minutes?
at which time we will be on the road to get there. I've left them a voicemail to let them know I'm coming. The nearest ER vet is 40 minutes away so I am just going to take them to mine when they open.
Both my dogs (JRT/Beagle mix and Lb/Pointer mix) woke up with weakness in their hind ends this morning. They can both walk fine as I took them for a short walk. But they can't get up the steps or onto the bed. When they lay down they both extend their right hind leg forward.
They both have been eating/drinking, pooping/peeing (this morning). I ran over the entire weekend in my head, but they didn't eat anything that could have caused this.
Has anyone ever heard of such symptoms? It would be one thing if it were only one of my dogs, but BOTH?
Please, no ridicule, I'm not neglecting my animals. Just trying to fill in the time before the vet opens.
Thank you.
They've both been vaccinated for lime disease. I've only found one tick on my JRT this summer.
I used Bayer pest control, safe for pets. But that was a week ago. I also used weed control spray the same day, also safe for pets.
They're 3 and 4 years old and they eat Dick VanPatten's Natural Balance which we keep sealed in a rubber maid container in the garage.
I really appreciate everyone's thoughts on this. Leaving for the vet in 15 minutes...

I am sorry to hear your doggies are not feeling well. How old are they? I noticed sometimes the weather would affect my older dog with his arthritis and sometimes morning were harder on him because his joins were stiff.
Another thing to think about is if there were running in woods or something where they could have tripped in a hold or over a limb and maybe hurt something. Do they play rough with each other? that could be another way they could have gotten hurt. It is odd that they are both feeling the same way too, it could be that one is not feeling well and the other has sympathy for them and so is not doing what the other cannot. I have seen animals do this before, especially if they are very close. Best of luck to you and your doggies!

I agree with kip. This sounds like it's neurological. If both dogs have the exact same symptoms they both got into something. Sometimes it can be as simple as a household cleaner used on the floors. Other things can cause this as well but the fact remains that both dogs at the same time??? Your vet I hope will have some conclusive answers for you and your beloved friends. Do not give them any food or meds before getting to the vet. Water only.
If anyone has poison out for mice they could have each ingested some of the mouse without your knowledge and this could easily cause this as well.
Give us all an update after the vet visit. We will pray for the wellness of both your companions.

Is it possible they got into any pesticide, or ate any insects that may have been sprayed with an insecticide?
It sounds like it could be a neurological problem - but with it developing that quickly, and in both dogs, it sounds like something they ingested, which makes me think of pesticides. If you have recently applied ANY pesticide anywhere in your home and garden, take the container with you to the vet (they will need the info on it)!!
Good luck!
Add: - do you know if your neighbours have used any insecticides? Insects can travel after being sprayed - and your dogs may have eaten some. Or do you live in the country near farm land? I really hope your vet can help!

Don't rule out their food.
I've been reading a lot of stuff about Nutro poisoning dogs lately where the owners never considered it being the food and continued feeding their dogs the one thing that was causing their symptoms.

I'm probably way off the mark here with your dogs but tick bites can cause weakness in their hind legs.
It has happened with one of my dogs many years ago, total weakness in his hind legs.
Im glad you are going to find out what it is. Let us know.

Well my dog has the same problem. We found out it was Lime Desease and Arthritus!
If your dogs are old then Arthritus with lime desease or just one. If young dog then probably just lime desease!
hope i helped
