What is a good name for a new grandfather?

My son and his wife are expecting our first granchild due next March (Yay!). i would like some suggestions for what the child will call my wife and me. I don't really like "Grandfather" -- too formal. What do your grandchildren call you, or what do you call your grandparents, or what are some suggestions you might have?

Congratulations!! I know the feeling, our son finally made us grandparents 2 years ago last may.

We had come to the point that when a friend of ours mother died she adopted us as surrogate parents, and we became surrogate grandparents to her children, my wife was there when Corby was born and she always thought of us as her Grandparents, she called me Papa, because it was easy for her to say, and she called my wife Nana maybe for the same reason.

However when Hannah was born, her maternal great grandfather was used to being call Papa by all of his grandchildren, and her maternal grandmother wanted to be call Nana, and after some thought we decided that Hannah needed some grandparents, so to her we are Grandpa, and grandma, of course when she was younger she had some trouble with understanding the differences so she would call me granpa, but my wife she call granpa, granpa.

we live 650 miles away and she would only get to see us twice a year, so you can see the confusion that she was going through.

of course now she know the difference and calls my wife granma,

when our children were born, my wife's mother didn't think she was old enough to be called grandma, you might say that she was a little vain, and being that she was only 4'11'', we taught the kids to call her big mom, and the name stuck.

in the process of deciding what to have Hannah call us we went through several popular names for grandparents,

one that I like is Poppie,

and of course Hannah's great grandmother is call Mimi, by all of her grandchildren.

my wife really likes the name Mimi, but it had already been taken.
