What is maternal leukocytosis?

Update:

Yes, I was pregnant, 33 weeks along, my daughter was in distress. She died 13 days after birth and I was reading the autopsy report today and it said I was given anti biotics for maternal leukcytosis. I love how they never told me anything, I was just curious what went on. Thank you for answer!

I assumes that it is referring to a pregnant woman with a higher number of white blood cells than a reference population. This means that the immune system is activated.

It might be a sign of infection of either the mother or the child.
