Contact the local Boy Scouts council. Maybe there's someone out there that wants to do a good deed.

And I'm serious about this. Scouts need a certain amount of service time to advance in rank, and when my son was in scouting, we had the whole troop doing yard work at one person's house one day.

If this doesn't work, ask at your church. Get a couple of guys with big power mowers, and they'd probably love to go mow and trim for an hour or two.

Hopefully; your friend's grandma told the staff for Meals on Wheels about the lady's need to have her lawn cleaned up. The Meals on Wheels group; along with your Local Area Agency on Aging should know who in your area can help.

You could try calling your local Referral Line (a phone referral service operated by the United Way) to find out who can help. Dial 2-1-1 on your phone; and explain the situation. The operator has a list of on the computer of local resources.

It is possible that there is no group who routinely does this type of work. If that is the case; then the Boy Scouts is a great suggestion. Also; faith based groups like Churches, Catholic Charities, Jewish Community Centers, United Methodist Social Services may be able to help.

You and your friend might be able to help by raising money for the lady to hire someone to do the work.

I know working for a city, that services for yards or house cleaning are not available due to liability. There was a time when services such as that would be available, but due law suits and customer complaints about the work that in the city's best interest was to cut the services. You could talk to senior services in your area and see if that's available, or a eagle scout group who needs a community badge, an etc.

Contact a Boy Scout or Girl Scout group. They earn badges for certain things and this may quailfie. Also a boy/girl club may have programs of community support. Or contact Chamber of Commerence and ask about elderly community support programs. Some cities now help elderly with repairs as run down places attract more crime so a crew comes and does minor fix ups. Good luck and nice of you to try help.

Many times, church members are more than happy to help out one of their own. Maybe you could check into that for her. There are volunteer groups who go around & help those who can't do lawn chores themselves, so maybe you could check into that for her also. Call the local SC Center & ask if they know of anyone who does volunteer yard work & handy work for the elderly. I'm sure they have that info for you. As for the city & their citations, why don't they work with this lady, knowing her circumstances, & get her the help she needs? I can't make any sense of that.

I seen on the news today about how they are going to fine these people for not mowing their lawns $75 fine plus the cost of the lawn service, Terrible What Next? See if your local gov. has a commission on aging
