Besides the Rays...what's been the biggest surprise this season?

The NL West? The Mariners? The Cardinals? Feel free to share what you think is the biggest "surprise" so far...it can be a good or bad surprise.

Update:

It can be a team, player, manager, etc.

    5. Grizzlies. 1. We already knew Kobe was great. 2. Umm, uhhhh, I don't know. 3. D. Rose was having a great season and so were the Bulls, some people might have expected this. 4. Well, after that 8 game win streak they just fell apart and it became obvious, they wouldn't winn the title. 6. LeBron choking, nothing new. 7. I'm glad for the Mavs and their TRUE fans.

The Mariners....Everyone picked them as faves in the begining if the season to take the AL West and were not expecting what we've seen so far.

The fact that they might lose +90 to 100 gms this year makes it a surprise because they were in the race for the wildcard last year and they acquired Bedard only to see him hit the DL and Richie Sexson was pretty awful since last yr.

  • The Mariners stinking it up when most had them winning the division ahead of the Angels.

Everyone thought E. Bedard was going to help F. Hernandez and being a lethal one two punch. Bedard has been bust and just seeing what players like G. Sherrill and A. Jones doing for the Orioles must be heartbreaking for the fans that though this might be the year.

The good--> Jon Lester + JD Drew

The bad--> The Red Sox bullpen + The Mariners

  • I would say,

Division-NL West. Many were predicting they would be doing so good. So far, they haven't showed that.

Team-The Mariners. They were predicted to do well. Last place isn't what many predicted. They predicted the Mariners in 2nd place, not last.

Player-Josh Hamilton. He's been doing AMAZING! He also did really good in the HR Derby! =]

I am going to have to go with JD Drew. He has stepped up amazingly to cover for Big Papi and the Sox wouldn't be where they are today without him. I am not discounting the performances of Dustin Pedroia or Kevin Youkilis but, JD seemed to come out of nowhere and carried the Sox through June. I cannot wait to see David Ortiz back home on Friday!

  • The Marlins, this was a team destined to have a 100 loss season, instead they may have an 85 win season.

  • Braves record in 1-run games. I mean just imagine if they won half of those games, the NL East would be a totally different picture. Geeze, the Braves really blew it this year.

    -The Tigers are kinda surprising

    -The Rangers above.500

-Josh Hamilton, Edison Volquez and Cliff Lee(theres probably mroe, but these are significant)

    -Willie Randolph getting fired

    -Rich Harden getting traded

    -Oakland A's not 4th place

    -Mariners 4th place

    -The health of Chipper Jones
