Going to a mets game?

In a couple of weeks I am traveling down to see a Mets game at one o'clock. I am coming from Albany and want to be able to see some batting practice, so how long with all of the traffic in NYC will it take me to travel by car from Albany to Shea. And I have heard that if you show up early enough there is plenty of parking

Usually there is no batting practice for a day game, especially when they have played the night before. But you are correct that, even this year, you can find parking if you show up an hour or more before the game. I think 3 hours is a fair estimate; I very often drive from Long Island to Saratoga and it takes me between 3 1/2 and 4 hours, and you'll be cutting off a half hour at both the start and end. Take the Whitestone Bridge over to Shea.

Parking right now at Shea is a bit of a pain because the new Citifield is being built where a lot of Shea parking space used to be. :-P

Conservative estimate: it will take you about 3 hours to get down here from Albany.

Might I also suggest an alternative.. Hop on an Amtrak train at Rensselaer, it will get you to Penn Station in 2.5 hours, where you can hop on a Long Island Railroad train that will take you right to Shea. That way you won't have to worry about parking.
