Since we're looking for the lowest possible average, we should assume the lowest scores possible that still satisfy the information.

30 students scored greater than or equal to 80. Obviously, the lowest they could have scored, then, would be 80.

The other 10 have no restrictions; the lowest score all 10 could have received is 0.

    Find the average:

    80*30+0*10=2400

    2400/40=60

So the answer is D, the lowest possible average is 60

We're looking for the lowest possible class average. Let's assume that the 30 students all scored an 80, that's the lowest possible for them. Let's assume the last 10 students all scored 0, that's the lowest possible for them. Now find the average. Add em up and divide by 40.

    (30*80 + 10* 0)/40 = 2400/40 = 60

The 30 students lowest possible grade would be an 80. The other 10 students lowest possible grade would be a 0.

    so [(30)(80) + (10)(0)]/40

    2400/40

    60

    answer d

lowest number greater than or equal to 80 = 80

Lowest grade possible for the other ten = 0

    80 x 30 / 40 = 60 so d.

    (30x80+10x A)/40= n now take A=0

n=2400/40=60 then take A=79 so n=(2400+790)/40 so n=3190/40 =79.75 so n=60 is the lowest possible value.

    d is the answer
