Why do so many people consistently preach that the U.S.A. is hated around the world?

We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA .

Read this excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper. The article was written by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title 'C'ntarea Americii, meaning 'Ode To America ') in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei 'The Daily Event' or 'News of the Day'

~An Ode to America ~

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religiousbeliefs

On 9/ll, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart.

Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the Army, or the Secret Service that they are only a bunch of losers.

Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts.

Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about

Instead the Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing. On every occasion, they started singing: 'God Bless America !'

I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put into collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such way?

Their land? Their history? Their economic Power? Money?

I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace, I thought things over, I reached but only one conclusion... Only freedom can work such miracles.

Simply put, no person/country wants to feel like they aren't the best. And with the US being the best, it creates resentment from other countries. And do remember, the people that don't like America probably have never been here to see its beauty and compassion both from its countrymen and lands.

People are entitled to their own point of view. But you have to admit most would have to side on the beliefs of their religion and their government.

Why are they united? I dont think they are wholly united at all. The 9/11 incident is a very tragic one that because of that catastrophic event, even the US enemies sympathize with them. Since most sided with the US, that gave the US the sense of more power to control the rest.

Has anybody empathized though? Did anybody try to reach out to the other party? What they did is to announce the war right away with their rival without even investigating if they are the real perpetrators.

There is really nothing wrong with the US...its the officials that may need to be blamed for all the crap they are spreading.

Uki is right...there is a propaganda that says that the 9/11 tragedy was just made up by the American government. And that government then was handled by BUSH who has a personal mission of finishing and winning the war against the Middle East. Talk about Father and Son tandem!

Are you familiar with the Arab-Israeli conflict? Saudi Arabia and Israel are still at war. And the US calls both of them an ally and provides weapon for both of them. For what? What's the sense to that?

Well, I'm an Indonesian. And somehow, there is a propaganda in here that basically says that the 9/11 are made by the American government so they could have reasons to hate Islam.

Basically, America was being hated by a lot of people in this world as they have always been an active speaker for things that they don't agree. And not just talking, but they basically do things to those countries. At least that's what they believe.

Oh, and Islam hated the Americans for being the most vocal about support for Israel. Islam hated the Israel, so whoever backs them out, are basically hated also.

But me, personally, I don't care about this whole thingy.

Why are a couple answers acting like the only people that hate these countries live in these countries O.O Unless England and the US have completely colonized the Earth I'm not sure what that means:P But I thinks its because these were the big powers recently. England not long ago and the US after WWII and the Cold War. The Soviets got their share of hate when they existed, and I'm sure China will as well when they become more established as a big power.

Not all non-Americans "hate" Americans. Regardless of your politics and nationality, everyone easily agrees that the level of resentment towards Americans is measurably higher now than it has been in the past; the primary reasons being its present involvement in the Middle East.

Of course, there are good points for liking or admiring certain American traits and practices but Americans are neither perfect so they are also subject to collective flaws just like any other group or culture.

Maybe Cornel Nistorescu should take a television crew and go see all the brave men and women who gave there all on 9/11, for himself.

I was shocked and disgusted, discovering all of these brave women and men you mentioned. All were very sick and were slowly dying and most of them have already deceased. By being told it was safe to enter the toxic dust, from the twin towers just to open Wall Street.

The US government or insurance company's have not offered one red cent in compensation to help any of these brave women and men who entered the World Trade Centre site to look for survivors and remove bodies. These brave American hero's can no longer work because they are dying. They now live in total poverty or out on the street so they can afford medication needed to keep them alive. Just like many brave American war veterans do.

Unfortunately there are always two sides to every story this one never gets mentioned.

It is NOT the U.S.A. that is "Hated" around the world. It is it's arrogant leader for the past 7 1/2 years that is "Hated". There is a difference.

Those peopel take their talking points from the daily kos and moveon.org. Those two organizations hate Bush so much that they project it onto the US as a whole. If they hate America, then the rest of the world must hate us, too.
