What do you really know about Universal Health Care?

This is what I've heard.

1. Everyone is covered, not matter of citizenship.

2. Facilities are run down.

3. Not enough doctors.

4. Waiting time can be all day, day, or months to include broken bones.

I wonder if our government would also be using Universal Health Care.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW! PRO OR CON

    Pros

-The bills will be lower because you more taxes and won't go overboard if its something expensive

    Cons

-to see a specialist would probably require putting yourself on a long waiting list

    PRO

I recommend watching "Sicko" by Michael Moore.

    Here are my comments:

    1. Everyone is covered, not matter of citizenship.

NOT TRUE. You have to be a citizen & you need a healthcard.

    2. Facilities are run down.

NOT TRUE. Some hospitals are older but the actual care you receive is great and the building are well-maintained and clean. They aren't brand new but they are definitely not run down.

    3. Not enough doctors.

NOT TRUE. There are some waiting lists to get a family doctor and to see some specialists, but I've never had to wait an excessive time.

    4. Waiting time can be all day, day, or months to include broken bones.

    NOT TRUE.

    Here is what I know...

1.) Everyone is covered, when they walk into an emergency room.... and presription drugs are cheaper.

2.) Facialites are not run down! Everything is more streamlined and better maintained.

3.) Always enough doctors, and they get paid well for simple things like, getting people to quit smoking, and eating right.

4.) I am not sure about waiting times, it think it really depends on the hospital. I know that even here in america people have waited an age to be seen.. case in point, the woman who died while awaiting care in NYC earier this month.

I do know that for electional procedures, there is a waiting list, not for imporant life threating injuries.

We need it here in America so bad.

Heck Candians REFUSE to vacation in America unless they go buy health insurance first. If they don't then they have to pay in FULL out of their own pocket. Going to England or Ireland for them is fine... just America.

You don't state which country you are from, so which of these are true and which are false is hard to say since there are all sorts of universal health care systems across the globe, and they are not all the same. Items 2-4 occur in all types of health systems, and in private systems, these tend to occur with poor people but not with rich people. So the thing to consider when evaluating a particular health care system is what safe guards and provisions it includes to prevent these problems from occurring.

You can always tell an American, but when it comes to health care you cant tell them very much.

Canadians enjoy an excellent standard of health care, and contrary to some posts they do not flock to the U.S. for treatment.

The U.S. can spend money fighting wars against countries who disagree with your policies, however you cant provide health care for your own people.

Stop your stupid wars, and you will save a lot of money, and have money to institute a health care program for all.

Good health care is not just a necessity, it should be a right, and you should not have to mortgage your future because of illness, or be turned away from treating facilities because you do not have the resources to pay.

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it is free.

When everyone takes the free ride, who will push the bus?

Do we really want the same morons in government who handled Katrina to handle our health care system?

How long will it take before Universal Health Care goes broke like Social Security?

Government has never ever done anything that hasn't eventually gotten all screwed up.

  • That just about covers it. All I could add is that Canadians that are seriously ill and have money come to the US for treatment rather than die in line in Montreal.

Hilarity's Universal plan was an attempt to get gun control into the mix. Using medical records the Government would be able to 'classify' citizens as to their 'medical ability' to 'properly' own a firearm. If you took a certain drug of combinations of drugs you would have been 'classed' as a mental patient and denied ownership privileges.

All your medical records would have been encoded onto your 'Universal Health Membership' card.

What about AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE for everyone.

People seem to forget there's something in the middle of no health care and universal health care.

Maybe it's because they want to forget.
