This page of New Zealand immigration should help you with work opportunities. We have had a really bad shortage of people to do work such as fruit picking and they were issuing special visas for people to come and do short term stints. So hopefully there will be something of interest.

If the coming harvesting season is anything like the last one, you will find yourself walking on red carpets anywhere you go as a fruit picker.

They had appeals in the newspapers for people to come fruit picking, because we had such a bumper crop in Otago.

With the climate change going the way it's going, this is likely going to happen again.

Grab a work permission at a local immigration office once you are here - you'll find that things can be far more negotiable when you are there in person, maybe in a place like Dunedin, and they are screaming for pickers again. I'm sure nobody will stand in your way then.

    Have a nice trip!

Yes it seems relatively easy as there are always tourists over here working as fruit pickers/working at vine yards . Hawkes Bay is a great place to go if you are interested in fruit picking - lots of orchards and is well known for numerous vine yards (if that's another area that may interest you ?) . Good luck - I hope you enjoy your time here !

    Yes, you can work.

But firstly, you must get the permission of the Labour Department. This department keeps changing its name. It may be either 'Work and Income' or 'Ministry of Social Development'. Some days I wonder if even the employees can keep up with all the "rebranding".

Check them out in the blue pages at the front of the phone book. They will have a freephone number so you can contact them from anywhere in the country for no charge.
