Do you think Ferrer will be able to hold his #4 rank until the US Open?

He just passed Davydenko this week in the rankings. It seems that the two players have been exchanging ranks in the past few months.

I think that he will be the #4 seed, yes. Because of the 52-calendar week system their 2007 Canada performances still count this week, but once they drop off after Aug.7 Ferrer's lead will go from 20 points to 110 points. Ferrer is also defending less points this week in Cincinnati, 125 for a QF showing vs. 225 for Davydenko's SF showing. They will both lose the 20 points that they are defending from New Haven after Aug. 19th, so that is moot.

Also I believe that the points gained at the Olympics will not factor into the seedings at the open, this is usually the case that the seeds and draw are determined before factoring in the prior week's tournament because the weekly rankings come out too late and they need time to make the schedule.

Unless Ferrer loses his second rounder in Cincinnati this week or Davydenko makes a run to the final I think Ferrer is safe at #4.

Wow, that's one of the most interesting questions I've heard on this board. All people seem to talk about here is Federer and Nadal. I think he will, he's a much better player than Davydenko. The first time I really saw him play was the US Open match against Federer. He played really well and I think he's the much better player. They both don't have that many points to defend and I think that Ferrer will wind up having a really good Olympics.

He should hold that ranking for the US Open. They might switch off a few weeks or so, but he should get that four seed

Well Davydenko and Ferrer have been swapping places now since the end of Wimbledon and I expect we will see a few more shuffles.

Davydenko, well I know very little about him as a tennis player-But alot about the gambling lol. He has been 4 in the world now for nearly as long as Federer has been number 1! Quite a remarkable achievement of consistancy despite dissipointment in Grand Slams.

Ferrer has had another great year after a fantastic run towards the backend of last year.

I think Davydenko will just nip in ahead of Ferrer for the US And even if he doesn't there is still a fair chance he will go into it as 4th seed-Even if Ferrer is 4 in the World.

    I think he will.

The only threat is Davydenko who is just twenty points behind at 2945 ATP points. Roddick (2065), Nalbandian (2005), and Blake (1980) don't have a chance at catching Ferrer before the US Open.

Ferrer is playing better than Davydenko at the moment so he's pretty secure at the # 4 position.

It's a long way to # 3 for Ferrer though. Djokovic has 5055 points.

I also think this is a good question... and I'm going to agree with the other answers and say that I think he will hold onto the #4 just long enough. Last year he (Ferrer) was doing great on hard courts. The only thing is that they both have semifinal showing at the US to defend. Should be interesting!!
