Rapid day to day alternative to a Civic Type R?

I'm fortunate enough to be about to purchase a new car, and I'm currently looking at the Honda Civic Type R. It's a business vehicle so needs to be reasonable practical but still rapid.

I've vetoed the thirsty Focus ST, the Megane R26 (quickest of the pack but doesnt feel special) and the capable but boring golf GTi.

Was wondering if anyone had any ideas where else to look, I've seen the new vw Scirocco which would fit the bill, and Alfa's run out GT Cloverleaf is another temptation, but after the brutal ride of the civic, I'm considering going for something a little softer.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm in the UK so please bear that in mind.

thanks for your thoughts

Steve

certainly try Arctic Monkeys, friendly Fires, Tame Impala, The Wombats, 2 Door Cinema club, Cage the Elephant, Modest Mouse, Blink 182, The treatment, Eddie Vedder's solo album, Janes dependancy, The Libertines, Muse, Of Montreal, Spoon, Weezer, and The Black Keys. And on your indie-persons yearning, try Mumford & Sons. good success :) And it is advantageous to work out you returned, in spite of if for in straightforward terms a query :)

My mate has a mondeo st (the v6 version). He got it 6 months old for £17,000 with delivery miles on it, and god its rapid.Downside is the mpg if you heavy on the loud pedal and the next road tax of about 400 bucks.

I have a Mini Cooper S for a daily driver, and it absolutely rocks!

Nice gas mileage, nice handling, more than enough power for city driving. I strongly recommend you test drive one. You will love it!
