2003 Suburban - What is the lock by the license plate for???
I'm going crazy- I have looked in the owner's manual and can't find anything about it.
I may need to tow a trailer and am trying to figure out what all I need to buy to hook up the trailer. I was looking to see if I had a tow hitch and found this lock. From what I've read on various websites, they are now installing round tube hitches- but pictures that I've seen show the 2x2 square receiver- which I do not see on my car. Anyway, please help!! :-(
I may have to tow a car on a trailer. I was looking to see if I already had a trailer hitch. I found this lock and am not sure if it has something to do with towing. When you turn the key, the whole lock comes out leaving an empty hole.

The lock that your talking about ,blockes the hole to the spear tire.Once you open that hole you can then put the rod in to let the tire down.If it had a trailer hitchalready on it you would see it without any doudt.I believe you can buy that hitch- kit at wal - mart or a auto parts store.

The lock by the license plate is the spair tire lock. This lock stops someone from removing the spair tire while parked. The ignition key removes the lock from the tube so you can use your spair tire tools to remove your spair.Best of luck.

Hard to answer something im not seeing in my mind.
But, you can get a chain lock? They have long ones also.
Im just wandering what your wanting to do? Lock the trailor to your truck? Unlock the hitch?
Lock the trailor up so you can leave it somewhere?
Just go to Autozone, or Checker Auto Parts. Explain what your wanting to do, "they should help you" lol
