My Pitbull found a toad this morning will he be okay?

I let my dog out into the yard for his morning business. I made myself a cup of coffee before joining him. He found a brown toad and being a inquisitive dog attempted to taste the toad. I assume the toad released some natural predator reflex action because my pit is now frothing at the mouth and acting very submissive The Toad is fine and now is residing outside of my fenced in yard. If it matters I live in Southeast GA USA I am unaware of any poisonous toads in the local area.

I don't think the toad is poisonous ,this is their natural defense they omit a nasty tasting substance so what ever is trying to eat it will spit it out, that is what maked the dog foam at the mouth just as soon as the dog gets all the substance out of his mouth he will be fine.my dogs has done this before.

My little Chi/IG/Pug found one a while ago too.

She was foaming at the mouth and trying to get the foam out so I put her in the bathtub and rinsed her mouth out really well with water. Luckily for me she didn't ingest any of it but since your dog got ahold of the toad while you weren't looking you really can't tell if he ingested any or not. To be on the safe side I would take her to your vet and explain the situation simply because there has been times when a dog dies from ingesting the poison a toad gives off for defense.

You probably should take him to a vet. I wasn't aware my area had poisonous snakes up until 2 years ago lol so it maybe something you just don't know.

Can you take a pic of the toad? maybe someone can identifiy it. Actually, when/if you go to the vet, maybe bring the toad along.

Should have washed his mouth straight away and taken him to the vet if he showed any confusion and kept frothing.

It happened one night with my puppy. I washed his mouth straight away and stayed awake all night and checked on him every hour. The emergency vet was very helpful too.. calm me down... lol. I panicked big time.

    Hope your dog is well.

    The best thing

    to do is take him

    to the closest

    vet and let

    them check him out.

    the toad might

    of been posinous-(sp?)

    so its better to

    take him to the vet

    just incase.

    good luck :)
