Honda VTX 1300R tires and Oil
for owners or mechanics who work on these, how long should I expect the tires to last on a new bike, I have put on 7000 miles so far this summer on them, I asked the salesman the other day and he told me probably 15000, but he is a salesman. How long have yours lasted? Also do you change your oil more than the every 8000 miles recommended, Thanks
I did have it changed at 600 miles, and I changed it at 4000, owners manual says at 600, then every 8000, but I like changing oil more often
I am pretty much a putter, I like to open it up now and then, but mostly puttering down alot of back country roads. I am not hard on the bike in any way, well maybe sometimes
I stand corrected, I have put 6000 miles on them

I Have the 2006 Retro with 14000 miles on the stock tires , I will be changing them out in the next 2000 miles only because of Dry rot ,The tread is still good but when you look really close you can see that they are starting to tear, Check out ''VTX Owners Association'' on the web it has over 33 thousand registered owners of the Honda VTX and you will have at your finger tips all the Infomation you will ever need for The VTX

I don't know anyone who lets their Oil go 8000 miles, even running Synthetic. As for tires, Your mileage will depend on the Tire compound, the Bike, and Your riding style. I have never gotten close to 10,000 miles on any tire but I like to corner carve.

I run tires down until I see the "steel snake" (buy tires early from ebay) then whenever the snake shows up, I pull off the wheels and drop them off at the local shop, pick them up next day or later the same day...
last set of tires I had lasted around 11,000 miles...
I change oil before every riding season whether I need to or not, with rotella 100% synthetic, as well as change sprockets, and chain...

15K seems about right. How you ride, if you ride two-up, if you keep them inflated properly, etc, are going to have some effect. I can get 15K out of an Avon rear on my Valkyrie, which is heavier than your VTX.
Change your oil at least every 5,000 no matter what kind of oil you use. I've never heard of a problem being caused by oil that was too clean.
Check out these guys, while you're at it. They have a VTX 1300 forum.

That is easy, seven people answered already, I will tell you how to RIDE it to break it in right. Do a lot of riding where you have to shift through 3-4 gears and ROLL the throttle on and let it rev up a bit. Don't take it too easy on it, you need to give it some gas to break it in.
