Double range for wi fi network

What device should i use if i need to double the range of my current network? Which one will work better for me, range extender (repeater) or an access point? Thanks!

Update:

it is for a rather large property, and wiring the the building is out of the question. i need a completely wireless network that will do the job. thanks

I would go with a Wireless Range Extender, but most Linksys Access Points can act as one, I'm not sure about other companies, like D-Link, but they may be similiar.

Put the WRE at the edge of your current netowrk to get the most coverage out of it.

This is hard to answer because we do not have any idea what your desired network looks like or what you want to accomplish beyond the general statement.

Doubling the range usually means installing wired lines to the wireless access points but there are times when a wireless to wireless link will do nicely.

Provide more info, including if this is for 2 buildings, one large building (with dense partitions like masonry or metal walls, etc), the area you want to cover, etc.
