yes and no because if they werent deaf when they were born and then sumhow they lost their hearing then yes because they know what things sound like for example birds bells etc. but if they were born deaf then its complicated cuz they dont know what kinda sound a dog makes or anything for that matter... so even if they did hear in their dreams it would b uncomprehendable sounds that dont make sense

The short answer is no- if they've been deaf since they were born.

To explain, when we dream, we're just imagining sound. It's our brain's way of sorting out what happened during the day. So if a deaf person dreams, they have no way of imagining what sound is even like unless they have GONE deaf since hearing in the past. It would be like asking you to imagine a colour that you've never seen before- not including combinations of other colours.

On drugs wouldn't change that either, because they would have no way, even in an altered state, of imagining what these sounds would be like.

So yes if they went deaf, no if they were born deaf.

When one of the five senses does not work in the usual fashion, other types of senses take over that function. For example, when ears are not that good at hearing sounds, the function is compensated by bone conduction though not as effectively. Also, the hearing range is traditionally considered to be 20 Hz to 20 kHz but best between 5-10kHz. Under different conditions, we do hear sounds what we are not able to under different circumstances. Also, this normal range is stretched or shrunk depending on the gender, age and how other sensory systems are working. So, the so called deaf are not totally deaf ever and they learn to associate by synchronising li movement to the words.

    That's a very good question.

However, when non-deaf people have a dream, you don't 'hear' anything. You just imagine sound. Which I know sounds confusing.

If someone has been deaf all their life, then they wouldn't know what sound sounds like, so they wouldn't be able to recreate it in a dream.

I think the drugs question is a step too far, though.

  • depends on how long they have been deaf, if they have been deaf since like they were born or when they were too young to remember anything they would not remember what sound is. They might I do not know. I am not deaf. I hear sound in my dreams.

Common sense answer to this question would be, if they can not hear sound never heard sound, how could they create sound?

What does drugs have to do with curing a deaf person so they can hear?

What a fantastic question!! I think if they were born deaf then no because their brains wont know what sound is like, people who turned deaf probably do hear things because they know what sounds are like! My blind aunt once said she would prefer being blind than deaf because she like to hear the birds singing!

nope if they didnt know what sound sounded like they wouldnt have it in their dreams unless they have heard sound before.

No they wouldnt hear sound if they did drugs of being deaf would be cured.

I hear voices. I also know many people that do from a support group I'm in. In my support group we have a member that is very hard of hearing and has times where she can't hear at all. She still hears voices all the time.

    Take care
