Is The Bible Fact or Fiction ?

the bible is fiction. its basically a collection of stories about god.

they just lost the first page that stated it was fiction

people who believe in the god and the bible believe it is the truth and anything contradicting it must therefore be false and fictional.

Without external sources to back up the claims of the bible, it could simply be a story book. If the bible were true, you would expect many sources to back it up. As it stands, most but not all of the ordinary stuff has external support. None of the magical bits have any support and seem to be borrowed from other religions concerning different Gods. If you are new to investigating the biblical claims, I would not say to automatically rule the bible out, but be careful not to blindly believe the claims because there are external sources that agree with each other but not the bible. Right now the Exodus is one such instance. There isn't any external source that shows that this actually happened and there seems to be external sources that show the Hebrews were not even enslaved.

I say Fact, and yes I am a christian. But I am not here to judge or push anything on other people. I am just here to tell you what I think.

As far as the bible not being relative to todays world I disagree. Did you know that Jesus was an advocate for equality amongst men and women?

"There is neither...male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Galatians 3:28

Jesus also openly talked to women in public when it was neither allowed or accepted by the people of his time, inlcuding some of his own discliples. Think modern day Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia where women are not allowed to speak, uncover their faces, or drive cars.

Consider that christ and his followers where also stongly opposed to abortion something that is still a large issue in society today.

The Bible also claims that the earth is round and suspended in space long before columbus sailed the ocean blue.

It is he that sitteth upon the circle (sphere) of the earth,...

And FYI most of the New Testament is not books but letters written by Jesus discliples. They write about their experiences and learning from Jesus and they give advice to the different churches that they founded.

These are just a couple of things. So if you want to say the Bible is fiction that is your right, but I would suggest doing your research and maybe experience it a little for yourselves first. The Bible was inspired by God and written by man. All authors embellish, but I have no doubt that the Bible says what it says because He wants it that way.

Why do all the "Science" people say the Bible is false, when there is just as much evidence that it could be true?

Hi Milly, firstly why do you ask? if it is for proof that the bible is real, there is nothing I or anyone can say or do to convince you it's FACT, if you really want to know seriously, then ask God to open your heart to receive wisdom and truth, get on your knees, ask God for a sign, say Hallelujah over and over, if and when you get this sign, a change of tongue, then all of a sudden it all makes sense, you will get an understanding, his word will make sense, how do I know, this is what happened for me, just over 4 yrs ago, I was a total Bible basher, a load of rubbish etc, then I read a simple message on a leaflet, went and checked it out and I am now convinced the Bible is Fact, is the inspired word of God, have to find out for yourself as no one will convince you but your own search and hopefully it will happen

Fiction, of course. It is literally, a compilation of a bunch of stories that people sent in about things that may or may not have happened to them.

I mean, seriously, have you read it? You cant, in your right mind, in todays world, read things like that, and see any possible way that it might have happened, short of alien intervention. You know, the whole "ascended to the heavens in a beam of white light" thing... and the thunderous voice from the clouds.... heh. If you DO believe it as fact, why? Because you were told it was fact? Think about it logically. Reasonably.

Still believe it all? What about Harry Potter? Believe that too? And in goblins and house elves... etc etc.

Really people... USE your understanding of the world today. It cant have been much different back then, apart from people being less civilised.. which means their understanding of their world wasnt very high. Anything abnormal apparently wasnt taken as "a more civilised technology", but as "magic"! and "miracles!". If someone stepped back in time and resuscitated someone, I am sure it would have been taken as some kind of wizardry, or black magicks...-

It is fact...God's word and WARNING to us. It is NOT all literal...This can be seen by reading Revelation.

It is a glimpse into our future.

Example; Psalms 37; 34 Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, And he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].

The wicked still exist today...so this is a prophecy of the future.

Any approved by God will live on the earth. This implies that not all go to heaven.

This in turn is supported by Ecclesiastes 9; 5,6...THE CONDITION OF THE DEAD.

It also implies that god will act to make sure the earth is not damaged or destroyed, as some religions claim.

It prompts us to look deeper into the Bible.

Intelligent people look at the facts upon which to base an equally intelligent understanding of events.

Some parts of the bible are factual, and most of it is fictional.

To leave your senses behind and blindly trust religious zealots is asking for disappointment. They have their pride to defend, no one likes to be shown up as a fool.

Our society is framed around religion and if you tell the emperor he has no clothes, he will be sorely embarrassed and likely unpredictable behaviour will follow.

The Bible was written:

* over a 1500 year span (from 1400 B.C to A.D. 100)

* over 40 generations

* over 40 authors from many walks of life (i.e. - kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, scholars)

* in different places (i.e. - wilderness, dungeon, palaces)

* at different times (i.e. - war, peace)

* in different moods (i.e. - heights of joy, depths of despair)

* on three continents (Asia, Africa, and Europe)

* in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek)

So far no archaeological fact in the bible has been disputed.

A great many of the prophecies in the bible have come true.

If you have ever played Chinese whisper you will know that some tales can be misconscrewed. So I expect some tales are exagerrated but it's hard to prove that.

As there are hundreds of scholars in the world enquiring into the Bibles authenticity I think we can believe at least some of what is written.

No, not the entire Bible is fiction. There are parts of it that are factual. However, anything between "In the beginning God created all the Earth" and "Amen" is lacking in truth. Aside from that, well I guess it is pretty well o.k.

I find it quite astounding in the year 2008 that some people take the word of the Bible as a literal account of how and why we are here. Even worse are the people who believe in such gibberish condone rape, morbid violence, genocide, murder, suicide, incest and fantasy and then teach it to their children. Now that to me is the true crime against humanity.

Same question when a biologist goes from evolution to Christianity. They are dismissed as credible anymore for some reason.

Also, if the bible is fiction, then a book to contradict a fiction book is also fiction, is it not?
