When you get your Playstation 3 back depends on what model you have. If you have a 40GB or 80GB then you will have an approximate wait time of a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Discontinued models like the 20GB or the 60GB (which I have) will take the same amount of weeks or longer (since they are discontinued and sometimes in backorder). From what I've experienced (had to send in my 60GB because of YLOD) they ship your box via UPS and return your repaired system with UPS overnight with a required signature (recommend to find the time to stay home that day). You can check the status of the repair with the following link: http://www.us.playstation.com/support/repairstatus
To access the repair status make sure to have the Service Request Number or Phone Number that you gave to the service representative. Hope my experience with Sony customer service can help your experience be seamless and problem-free.

Yes, you have experienced unfortunately the dreaded Blu Ray disc drive failure.
The Playstation 3 has quite a few issues with its Blu Ray drive, and surprisingly is not as durable or consumer friendly as they would have you believe. If you have a warranty Sony will replace it, provided you send it back to their repair center now within the time slot. Their policy for this depends on when you purchased the product.
One common thread to each of the claims, is that error 80010514 constantly shows up on the screen when the drive fails.

What is the root cause of the failure is still not fully understood, as it seems to be simply a problem with the Blu Ray drive laser correctly lining up in the device's spindle.

The most discussed temporary solution has been to simply turn the PS3 on in a room with open air circulation, and re-install the firmware updates or uninstall the first firmware updates yourself.
PS3's Blu Ray drive seems to suffer from both a firmware error and a hardware failure, due in part to the firmware installed. Make absolutely certain your Blu Ray drive is using firmware update 2.20 or the latest version, and that it is not extremely hot. Both MGS4 and Call of Duty (as well as other games) have been known to cause errors in the Blu Ray's firmware. If you ever have problems where it doesn't boot up at all, please call Sony USA direct so they can replace the drive.
The problem was confirmed to be with the Blu Ray drive only, there is no hardware failures with the PS3 just occasionally with the BD itself. Sometimes, reinstalling all the updates and rebooting the whole system will eliminate the error. I hope you've found this as a useful guide. Blu Ray failures can ruin a system much like the RROD ruins the 360, proving that all game consoles are not made of super metal.

No you can't see the status online, it wouldn't take as long as the Xbox 360 when you brake it you wait for like 2 months lol
Just be patient mate,
The problem with your Ps3 was the Blu-ray laser, This is the PS3 problem, I have heard many things about this.
So just be patient, it wouldn't take long, trust SONY
