Mac Mini incompatible with a Phillips 42" Flat Screen?

I just bought a Mac Mini and wanted to use my Phillips 42" 1080p Full HD LCD (model 42PFL5432D-37) as the monitor.

When I hooked it up I got the message: This mode not supported (or words to that effect) please switch to 1920 x 1080 60 hz resolution.

This setting is not available on my Mini, and when I called Mac tech support they tell me that means the TV will NOT work as a monitor for the Mac Mini.

Is this truly the case? Or is there still a way to use the TV as the monitor?

Thanks.

Even the original Mac mini can do 1920x1080. If you've only tried the TV's VGA port, try the HDMI and vice versa.
