Although it was recorded in America, Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman" saw the beginning of the Women's Liberation movement of the 70s. Other than that, I guess you'd have to look at Skyhooks - particularly their "Livin' In The 70s" album. They had in Greg Macainsh a songwriter who wrote about local topics and issues. It was the first time songs had been written about Carlton and Toorak, and issues relating to sex (and sexuality) and drugs. Other than that, you'd have to look at less "popular" writers and singers like Margaret RoadKnight, Bob Hudson and possibly Richard Clapton.

Try the songs of buffy saint marie, bob dylan , joni mitchell . There where many protest songs about the treatment of the American Indian just transfer they're meaning to the Aborigine's.
