What's the difference (in Language) between French-Canadian French and France - French?

Update:

Thanks for the answers so far.

We are expanding support for our product to France and Canada. We wanted to kill two birds with one stone however one of the other departments has demanded that we have "French-Canadians" for Canada.

Especially the expressions. They are very different. And French Canadian translates everything from English whereas we keep many English words in France French (for example a mail=un mail in France French ; un courriel in French-Canadian).

A lot of French Canadian expressions directly come from English.

For example : to fall in love=tomber en amour in French Canadian/tomber amoureux in France French).

Idiomatic expressions are very important in French, we use them for everything and there are thousands. That's why French Canadian and France French are so different. We don't always understand each other!

And the pronunciation is very different.

The differences are minor "grammatically" speaking, but there's a urge difference between the way French and Canadian speak!

Certain different ellisions and different usage of words for certain things. Also, pronunciation is slightly different.

I don't know Canadian French, but for example, in Cajun French, perfume is "essence". However, even though French French has that same word, perfume in French French is "parfum".

    Hope that helps.
