I got few questions about turtles...

first of all i got 3 red ear sliders...

#1 My turtles are about the size of a dollar coin, and i've had them for a little over two months, so when do they start getting bigger? or do they?

#2 I've been feeding them mini krill and shrimp.. should i be feeding them something else?

#3 Do they need to be under a Light all the time even at night?

#4 Their shells are starting to curve out but a just little bit... is that a bad thing? should i do something about that?

just wondering thx [:

they are under and on their way to getting sick.

For 3 turtles I hope you have a60 gallon tank at least or plan on getting one by Christmas. They need room or they will start killing the smallest off for more space and food.

Are they basking 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D they need to grow? Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees.

Is their water clean, do you have a good filter system?

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium.

They need leafy greens for vitamins.

Sliders I have two that are 36 yrs old!! Plus an 8 and 5 yr old.

I have had them in a pond for about 6 yrs now..

ok well make sure u can have a tank big enough for them when there full grown because they can grow up to 12 inches long and the rule is 10 gallons for every inch so they should be in a 40 gallon tank right now with about 30 gallons of water

you should feed them babyaquatic turtle food to and offer fresh romain lettuce (not iceberge) everyday because they become more vegitarians as they grow and are more carniverous as babies

they need a basking lamp and a florecent light on during the day and at night they dont need a light although some people put "moon" lights its not nessesary and can in some cases harm the turtle

there shells do curve its nothing bad unless its a dramatic curve like folding in half

1 Depending on the sex of the turtles, you will need at least a 20 gallon long to begin with and by the time they are adults you may need 120 gallons plus for that many. I got my RES last June and she was about the size of one of yours and now she is probably about 7 inches (shell length). "Contrary to the myth, turtles do NOT grow to meet the size of their enclosures, so keeping your hatchling in a 10 gallon aquarium will not keep him small. It will only serve to make him/her very uncomfortable and eventually very sick." Source: Austinsturtlepage.com Check out the following website http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Articles/firsttur...

#2 That's good. I would use Reptomin as their main food source and the krill and shrimp as snacks. Also throw in red leaf or green leaf lettuce to balance their diet. When they are a year old or so, you may need to feed the Reptomin every other day or so and feed more lettuce because of the protein content (turtles do not need as much protein in their diet as they get older). Remember not to overfeed, they will beg.

#3 They need two kinds of lighting. One for heat for basking and a UVB light (Turtles require UVB rays to make Vitamin D3 needed for calcium metabolism. Without it, the turtle's bones do not grow properly and they become weak and disfigured.)

#4 I wouldn't worry about the shell being curved unless it is very noticeable that it is pyramiding.

    This is kinda funny....

I got 3 baby red ear sliders 2 weeks ago...lol...

    1#...when they grow...get them a bigger tank...

2#...you can't always feed them that...they might get sick...so try feeding it pellets and feed shrimps for a snack like 1 every week.

3#...ya they do need light but I dont have that UVB light...and I might get it tomorrow so I will recomened u to get a UVB light...

4#...try asking your local petstore or a vet cuz I am not a expert....I just got my turtle 2 weeks ago...

    I hope I help...

based upon your state regulations, it quite is against the regulation to take animals from the wild. you are going to desire a perfect sized tank (40 g or extra suitable) - visual show unit lid - UVA bulb ($40) - Basking easy (approximately yet another ($25 for clamp and bulb, in line with threat extra dependng upon the dimensions & wattage you flow with) - Substrate - nutrition (vegetables & culmination by using fact it quite is a tortoise) - Thermometer guage - Calcium dirt quite a lot of stuff. you're watching around $2 hundred minimum for a setup.

turtles will only grow up to there environment the bigger house the bigger the turtle so if you want them to grow get them a bigger home.

thats good what your feeding them but try to give them worms and insects too if you want i do.

i never use lights for mine but you can it would be good for them i never did use one at night when i did have one wich was for a week.

it should be fine but if its really bad bring them to a vet.

make sure they got land and water at all times!

thanks bye o and you can rely on my info!
